Expect is a program that performs programmed dialogue with other interactive programs. It is briefly described by its man page, expect(1). It uses pseudo-tty's to control the child processes, so it is not affected by programs that refuse to read from stdin or pipes. (eg: passwd(1) etc). This program is no longer maintained upstream, with a last release in 2018 and the most recent maintainer ticket action in 2020.
Binary packages can be installed with the high-level tool pkgin (which can be installed with pkg_add) or pkg_add(1) (installed by default). The NetBSD packages collection is also designed to permit easy installation from source.
The pkg_admin audit command locates any installed package which has been mentioned in security advisories as having vulnerabilities.
Please note the vulnerabilities database might not be fully accurate, and not every bug is exploitable with every configuration.
